Technologies Used in Pedagogy with Artificial Intelligence Adaptations (TUPAIA)

DESCRIPTION

The development of AI-powered educational tools offers new possibilities to personalize learning and alleviate teachers’ workload. Two lines of research will be explored in the TUPAIA project:

1) The first aim is to enhance personalized learning by adapting content to individual characteristics. Currently, systems are mainly based on the analysis of performance, but other cognitive variable (e.g., motivation, cognitive load, satisfaction) need to be considered to design more adapted and effective tools. The main challenges are the evaluation of these variables in real time during learning, and the identification of relevant adaptations.

2) The second aim is to consider the acceptability of such environments among future users (e.g., teachers, students). Experimental studies will be conducted to identify the factors involved in the acceptability of AI-powered educational tools, such as the task concerned, previous knowledge about AI, or the presentation of the system. Attitudes towards AI-powered educational tools in terms of perceived utility, ethical concerns, and fear of replacement, will also be investigated.
